Dittany

Dittany, or Erontas (as it is otherwise known), is a native plant that is found in Crete and used as a drink. The name comes from Dikti (Lassithi) where it formerly grew in abundance.

The herb has a very strong odour and flavour, while its’ leaves are relatively small but plump, covered with a velvety skin, the flowers are purple. It is a highly soluble herb, one of the most important melitogens, especially known for its soothing action against pain

Dittany can be used as an  antiseptic, a tonic and antispasmodic.  It is used for healing wounds, as a soother for the digestive system, and a herbal remedy for influenza and colds. It acts as an anticonvulsant and contributes to the prevention and treatment of circulatory and heart problems, relieves headaches and stomach problems, toothaches and abscesses. It also acts as an ant diabetic and as aphrodisiac. It is used as a medicine in the form of a beverage, replacing tea.
